[Guide] – How To Write A Great Press Release For Getting Huge Traffic & Authority Backlinks

Press Releases are one of the best ways for getting traffic to our website and building authority backlinks.They play crucial role in establishing strong public relation and get your company or product or event, notified to huge number of audience within a short span of time.There are thousands of syndicating networks connected, which makes our news go viral over online for some time.Google recognizes these press releases and provides them great support for ranking among the top searches. Now, if the press release targets a very competitive keyword, it may be difficult to rank on Google Page 1 but in case if your keyword is not much competitive [low/medium] there are chances that it can grab the position on the 1st page of Google.

Some great press releases stay on Page 1 for huge time, bringing the traffic and business.Now, please don’t fear that if you are capable of writing a press release that looks great or not.There are some easy guidelines that help you to convert your press release from level 0 to level 5 which means, its great :).

Structure of a Good Press Press Release

A proper structure is very important for a good press release.The below elements are very important which otherwise your press release doesn’t look professional and carries the reading interest.

 

  • Headline

  • Summary

  • Body

  • About

  • Contact Information

1. Headline

This is the first part of the press release which has the power to grab the attention of the readers. Many of the users complain that they aren’t getting enough traffic from the press releases even after spending so much for the pro packages. There are several reasons and the one among them is not having the great headline which conveys the essential of the press release. The headline should give an idea about what exactly is the press release about and what the reader is going to benefit from it. 

  • The best strategy for a great headline is to employ the same style and language as it appears in the news paper headlines.

2. Summary

Summary field is not mandatory for all the press releases. Few press releases follow the standard of having summary in the beginning of the press release to provide the information very briefly and to the point.

  • Do not elaborate anything here because that might take off the interest of the readers.

  • The summary should always be limited to 4 to 5 lines with just one paragraph and approximately around 200 to 250 characters.

3. Body

The press release should be written in the style of the news paper article to make it look more professional. There are several ways of starting the main content of the press release.

The first part of the press release is  <Location/City> – <Date> -

This dateline field is many times generated automatically by the press release creation forms. But if it isn’t getting created then add the date and the location of the press release. The below are few examples of the Dateline field followed by few companies.

As most of the readers don’t have time /don’t want to spend much on reading the whole press release , try to get the important points in your first paragraph and your last paragraph.

The first paragraph which is a kind of introduction should answer the main point of the press release. It should address what exactly is this press release about and information about event dates[ if required]. It should also answer the possible situations that can be phrased with the terms Who, What, Why, When and Where [Not compulsory for all of them but atleast try to give as much as possible].

The middle paragraphs [which aren't often read] should support the statements made in first paragraph. Please don’t write long sentences and paragraphs extend this to number of lines. This should mainly contain information about the press release , statistics , facts [if used then justify by providing proofs that support your facts] and all the relevant details related to the press release.

Points To Remember

  • Do not have repeated information over and over.

  • The complete information  [1st para, middle and last para]  should at least contain 500 words or 3000 characters.

  • Even though few press releases require 2 paragraphs at minimum, try to use 3 paragraphs instead of 2, for more readability.

  • Each paragraph should contain 5 to 8 lines and in case if you are exceeding that, then use a new paragraph again. This helps to structure everything in  a proper format.

  • Maintain atleast 1 line gap for good readability.

4. About

This should be short and brief [2 to 8 lines] about the organization or the company issuing the press release.

5. Contact Information

This section provides information about fields like

  • Name
  • Phone Number  [ provide official business contact number]
  • Email Address [ Use emailid@company.com for more authority ]
  • Mailing Address
  • Company Website

Many people don’t realize the power of this section and leave it with some unknown and fake details. Please don’t do that and always give the right contact details as it helps you to gain the leads and expand your business/sales.

What are the possible backlink locations in Press Release ?

Generally you can get atleast 2 backlinks depending on the press release provider. Please do not include any links in your 1st paragraph. You can have 1 backlink in the last paragraph and another in the About section.

Try to use the hyperlinks in the form of keyword contextual backlinks to your blog for getting more authority for that keyword.

If anywhere required then provide links back to the facts and figures sources mentioned in the press release. Also, if you are using some artifacts like images,videos etc. then credit them at the end of the press release.

Do not use any copyrighted information because your press release can be subjected to cancellation and get it removed loosing all the credibility, authority and the backlinks.

Also note that the press release should always be written in third person. So avoid using we, us and ours in the press release and instead use they, them and theirs.

Step 1 : Goto Google.com & Type any of the following

  • PRLog

  • SBWire

  • PRWeb

 Step 2 : After results are displayed, click on “Search Tools” > “Any Time” > “Past Hour” or “Past 24 Hours”

Step 3 : Go through atleast 1 Press Release from each source.
